Hurricane

Stop the hurricane

Hurricanes that bring tropical cyclones to the shores of Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, the United States and other countries lead to enormous destruction, loss of life and economic losses in the millions and billions of dollars.

Now scientists can detect the formation of a tropical cyclone early enough and predict the trajectory of its movement.

The current level of development of science and technology allows us to come close to the issue of active protection against hurricanes.

The main factors leading to the emergence of tropical hurricanes is the temperature difference between the upper layers of ocean water and the lower layers of the atmosphere.

The disappearance of these factors leads to the weakening and disappearance of the hurricane.

Once a hurricane leaves the warm sea waters and goes to land, it weakens.

Once a hurricane moves to an area with colder water, the hurricane weakens.

Thus, despite the strength and power, it turns out that hurricanes have their own “Achilles heel”.

Based on this, we can offer three options for managing hurricanes, or rather their destruction.

The first option is to heat the upper part of the hurricane with the help of lasers or mirrors located on satellites. This will weaken its strength due to the cessation of air convection.

The second option is to create artificial land on the way of the hurricane - huge pontoons in the ocean.

Both of these methods are very expensive.

Therefore, there is a third way - economical, environmentally friendly and safe. You just need to locally cool the ocean across the direction of travel of the cyclone.

Hurricanes occur in those parts of the ocean where water warms above 26.5 ° C to a depth of more than 50 m. However, cooling only on 5 ° C at the surface water leads to energy loss and dispersal of the hurricane.

How to cool ocean water economically and safely?

There are many options for this.

It can be ordinary ice (or solt ice).

It can be dry ice made from carbon dioxide.

It may even be liquid nitrogen.

The adjustment mechanism can also be implemented in various ways.

You can deliver the refrigerating medium by air (by plane, drones and ets.) and dump the refrigerant into the sea “in front of” the hurricane along its trajectory.

Deliver a refrigerating medium by sea on robotic barges and scatter into the sea across the cyclone course.

Deliver refrigerant to submarines (submarines, robotic submarine barges, bathyscaphes).

A submarine can, remaining at a safe depth of more than 60m, opening a special cargo compartment on top of the hull, allow the refrigerant to float to the surface of the sea on its own, according to the laws of physics. In this case, the boat (several boats) can move across the course of the hurricane, cooling the ocean waters along the entire front of the cyclone.

Rising up, refrigerant pellets will cool ocean water. In this case, cooling "from under the water" will be most effective, since not only the surface layers of water will be cooled, but also the entire 50-meter water column necessary for a hurricane.

Actually, nature itself uses a similar cooling mechanism, pacifying hurricanes with help cold waters of northern and southern latitudes beyond the tropics.

If the cooling will be applied not in one place, but in several bands that are transverse to the cyclone vector, then it will be possible to achieve a guaranteed and effective elimination of the hurricane, preventing it from reaching the shore. This will avoid loss of life, destruction and economic loss. Thus, it will justify the costs of creating mobile anti-hurricane protective barriers. Meteorologists and rescue services will receive an effective prophylactic against hurricanes - an anti-hurricane submarine fleet, ready to quickly advance across the tropical cyclone discovered by meteorologists and protect coastal residents.
